Preventable Accident Claims the Life of Shingle Springs Man

A tragic truck accident claimed the life of a Shingle Springs man. The accident occurred on December 4, 2012, at approximately 8:00 a.m. According to published reports, the driver of a Ford F-150 pickup truck was traveling westbound at approximately 40 m.p.h. on Green Valley Road near Ponderosa Road in El Dorado County when a large oak fell across the road. The driver of the truck swerved in an effort to avoid the falling tree but was unable to avoid contact when the tree fell on top of the cab of the truck.

The driver of the truck has since been identified as 48-year-old Bryan Vandeventer of Shingle Springs, California. Mr. Vandeventer was reportedly was taking his girlfriend’s 10-year-old son to Rescue Elementary School when the accident occurred. The child was not injured but witnessed the shocking accident from the backseat of the truck.
A public or government entity may be liable for this terrible accident if there was prior notice that the tree constituted a dangerous condition of public property. Claims against public entities have an accelerated statute of limitations period and must filed within six months of the date of the accident.
If a private landowner owned the property adjacent to the roadway they could also potentially be responsible on a premise liability theory if they were aware that the tree posed a danger to motorists and failed to remedy the situation. Victims of trucking accidents and their families deserve an experienced trucking accident lawyer who will investigate all potential sources of liability.
