Two Students Injured in San Leandro School Bus Accident

On December 11, 2012, a frightening school bus accident in an unincorporated area of Alameda County resulted in multiple injuries. A California Highway Patrol Spokesman has indicated that the accident occurred on southbound 14th Street north of 165th Avenue near San Leandro, California.

According to published reports the accident involved two vehicles and the school bus. The accident was caused by a 19-year-old woman who was driving a Toyota Camry. She rear-ended another Toyota Camry that was stopped at a red light at the intersection of 165th Avenue. The force of the impact pushed the Toyota into the rear of the Ford Econoline school bus. Two 17-year-old students on the bus were reportedly transported to a local hospital with undisclosed injuries. At The Matiasic Firm our thoughts are with the young victims in hopes that they make a complete and speedy recovery.
The school bus that was involved in the accident is owned and operated by Durham School Services. Durham School Services is a private bus company that provides transportation services to Baldwin Academy. The law varies with respect to private bus operators versus public bus operators. Private bus accidents are controlled by the state statute of limitations which provides victims two years in which to file a claim. This is in contrast to bus accidents involving public transportation buses that are operated by a city, state, or federal entity. Public bus accidents have an accelerated statute of limitations of six months in which victims must file a claim. Regardless of the type of bus accident, the experienced California bus accident attorneys of The Matiasic Firm can help.
