Bus Accident Kills Three in Davis

A horrific bus accident occurred on July 12, 2012 at approximately 2:45 p.m in Yolo County. The tragic accident occurred on County Road 102 near the intersection of Pole Line Road in Davis, California. According to published reports, a Ford F-250 pickup truck collided with a United Cerebral Palsy ("UCP") transport bus. The truck was driven by 52-year-old Jeffrey Richard Rivas who reportedly swerved into oncoming traffic and struck the bus head-on. Mr. Rivas died at the scene of the accident.
Two of the passengers on the UCP bus were also killed in this tragic accident. A spokesperson from Mercy San Juan Hospital indicated that Laura Sue Weiderholt died the following day from her injuries. The Yolo County Coroner's Office confirmed that 35-year-old Sara Rae Johnson of Davis was also killed in the accident. The driver of the UCP bus was 35-year-old Luz Torres of Sacramento. She was transported to U.C Davis Medical center and is reportedly in critical condition. Another victim, 24-year-old Nicole Tabarez, was transported to Sutter Hospital in Davis. She was suffering from abdominal contusions but was released after receiving treatment.
