Woman Killed In San Jose Big-Rig Truck Accident

A tragic big-rig truck accident took the life of an unidentified woman on May 24, 2012 at approximately 10:00 am. The scene of the accident was the northbound Interstate 680 on-ramp from eastbound McKee Road in San Jose, California. According to published reports, the accident was caused by a big-rig truck that reportedly lost control while negotiating a turn on the Cloverleaf on-ramp. The truck's trailer swung into a passing Toyota Camry. The victim, who was a passenger in the Toyota Camry, died at the scene. The driver of the Camry suffered minor injuries and was transported to nearby Valley Medical Center.

The Threat of Big-Rig Accidents

The sad reality is that accidents involving big-rig trucks often result in fatal or severe injuries. This is due in part to the enormous size and weight of big-rig trucks in comparison with other passenger vehicles. Any negligence on the part of big-rig truck operators can have deadly consequences for other motorists. Aggressive driving is one the leading causes of big-rig truck accidents.

Examples of this would include:

  • Driving at excessive speeds
  • Unsafe lane changes
  • Ignoring traffic signals
  • Tailgating
  • Failure to yield

Behaviors such as this put the safety of other motorists at risk. If any of these or other aggressive driving behaviors were a contributory factor in causing the accident the truck driver may be held liable. It is unclear whether unsecured cargo played any role in this horrific accident, though it is possible that unsecured cargo in big-rig and commercial trucks can shift and causing the driver to lose control.
