Multiple Injuries Reported After Tour Bus Crashes in Union Square

Last Friday (November 13th, 2015) a large double-decker tour bus operated by City Sightseeing crashed violently at the heart of San Francisco’s Union Square. The bus accident involved several other vehicles, another tour bus, and one bicyclist, as well as causing significant damage to nearby scaffolding. At least 19 people – many of them tourists – have been reported as injured, including two in serious condition and three more in critical condition.

The bus driver is stating that the bus’s brakes failed, leading to the devastating accident. Investigators are in doubt, however, after maintenance workers for City Sightseeing have claimed that recent inspections show that everything should have been functioning fine.

The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) is proposing upwards of $20,000 in fines to the touring company for possible safety violations regarding the frequency of bus inspections. Additionally, California Highway Patrol reports that the bus was never inspected by their organization because City Sightseeing failed to report that particular vehicle to CPUC. All of this adds up to some major suspicions.

Who is Helping the Victims of the Accident?

At this time, not much is being said about how those injured in the bus accident will be compensated, or if City Sightseeing is even taking full responsibility for the crash. The medical costs of recovery will surely range into the thousands, especially for those who were critically injured. It is unfair to think that they will have to pay out of their own pockets for compensation, or that they will live hindered due to this accident.

At The Matiasic Firm, located only a few blocks from Union Square, the firm believes in the importance of upholding the rights of the people wrongly injured in this incident.
