Devastating Southern California Tour Bus Accident Leaves Over Fifty Victims With Serious Injuries

On Thursday, August 22, 2013, a tour bus accident left at least fifty-five victims with serious injuries. The accident occurred on eastbound Interstate 210 in the vicinity of Interstate 605 connector. This location is approximately twenty miles east of Los Angeles in Irwindale, California. The tour bus collided with a Hyundai Electra before overturning on its side and coming to rest on train tracks that are adjacent to the freeway.

Preliminary reports indicate that the bus driver caused this accident by either traveling at excessive speeds or making an unsafe lane change. Sadly, bus driver negligence and error is a common and preventable cause of devastating bus accidents. Some examples of bus driver negligence include: texting while driving, speeding, inattention, driver fatigue, and driver intoxication. If driver negligence is confirmed to have been the cause of this accident, the bus driver can be held liable.

In addition to the driver, the tour bus company and its insurance carrier can be held financially liable for the injuries that resulted from this terrible bus accident. Bus accidents victims are entitled to receive compensation for their medical expenses, rehabilitation, wage loss, loss of earning capacity and pain and suffering. The experienced attorneys of The Matiasic Firm specialize in fighting for bus accident victims and getting them the compensation they deserve. In the past several years, our dedicated attorneys have successfully recovered millions of dollars for accident victims in Southern California and throughout the state.

According to published reports, the bus that was involved in the accident is owned by Da Zhen Travel Agency of Monetery Park, California. Da Zhen Travel Agency is a tour bus company that offers trips to casinos in California and Nevada. The bus was purportedly en route to the San Manuel Indian Bingo and Casino in Highland, California when the terrifying accident occurred. Tour buses are frequently involved in accidents partly because tour bus companies often ignore maintenance issues and defective parts in an effort to maximize profits.

There were reportedly fifty-five victims who suffered injuries as a result of this bus accident. The victims were triaged to various area hospitals by a sizeable emergency response team that included at least ten ambulances. Eight of the injured victims were airlifted to Los Angeles County and USC Medical Center with severe injuries. In addition to the injured bus passengers, at least three other victims who were riding in other vehicles that were involved in the collision also sustained injuries. At The Matiasic Firm our thoughts are with all the victims in hopes that they make a complete and speedy recovery.
