Los Angeles Party Bus Accident Claims the Life of C.J. Saraceno

On Sunday, September 30, 2013, at approximately 12:20 a.m. 24-year-old Christopher "C.J." Saraceno was killed in a devastating bus accident in Los Angeles, California.

Mr. Saraceno was reportedly on a party bus celebrating a friend's birthday with 23 other passengers onboard when the accident occurred. The location of the accident was the southbound 101 Freeway near the Barham Boulevard Exit just south of Lankershim Boulevard in Universal City.

According to published reports, Mr. Saraceno was in the front of the bus when the driver inexplicably swerved causing Mr. Saraceno to be ejected from the bus. Mr. Saraceno was unable to survive the severe injuries he sustained and emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene. At The Matiasic Firm, our thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Saraceno's family in their time of grief and sadness.

Mr. Saraceno was a Tufts University graduate who had moved to Los Angeles from his hometown of Watertown, Connecticut. He worked as a brand content strategist for the past two years at NCLUSIVE, a digital consulting firm. The CEO of NCLUSIVE described Mr. Saraceno as a one-of-a-kind employee who was well liked by all.

The bus that was involved in this accident has been described as a modified 2001 Ford 550 party bus. The identity of the owner and operator of the party bus has not yet been released.

A comprehensive bus accident investigation is necessary to determine if there were safety concerns regarding the bus prior to the accident. Maintenance issues and defective parts are a common cause of bus accidents. The owner of the bus is responsible to ensure that the bus is in good mechanical condition.

A bus accident investigation will also ascertain whether driver negligence or error contributed to this deadly accident. Police are interviewing the bus driver, the passengers and other witnesses to determine why the bus driver inexplicably swerved causing Mr. Saraceno to be ejected from the vehicle. The driver will be liable for this fatal accident if his negligence is determined to have been a substantial factor in causing the accident.
